VisualMedia Focus

May 2006

Dear [Firstname]

Welcome to the latest instalment of VisualMedia’s ‘Focus’ newsletter and as usual we look at a snapshot of assignments that have kept us busy over the past couple of months.

In between the challenges of staying cool and enduring another  disappointing World Cup, our team of photographers and film crews have been busy with a wide range of assignments around the UK and overseas, including photographing school kids exploring the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida to an IPO announcement in Canada.

Closer to home, we have photographed Rebecca Loos promoting text betting for the Tote, the launch of Ben & Jerry’s new Fair Trade ice cream, the opening of a new Meerkat enclosure at Chessington World of Adventures and many other summery shenanigans.

Please remember that we also offer a full idea generation service, free of charge with no obligation, so do call us to discuss any photography or video work you may be planning.

We look forward to working with you.

Kind Regards,

Dan Shillum
Director

It's been a busy time for VisualMedia with client, Telewest - a merger with NTL at the beginning of the year and more recently, the purchase of Virgin Mobile in a £700 million deal. Working closely with the PR agency on this announcement, VisualMedia attended a photo-call at Buchanan Communications' offices and distributed images out to the press immediately afterwards. The pictures were used in wide range of publications including a variety of national newspapers.

Holy Island lies just off the extreme Northeast corner of England near Berwick-upon-Tweed with a population of just over 150 persons, and is cut off by the tide twice in every 24 hours. BT engineers have recently laid waterproofed submarine optical fibre cabling along the mile-long tidal causeway to bring 21st Century communications to this historic place and VisualMedia were there to capture the event.

A mob of Meerkats arrived at their new home at Chessington World of Adventures just in time for the start of the hottest weekend in the UK this year. The heat loving Meerkats, also known as ‘Angels of The Sun’ in their native Africa, are now enjoying the sun in their desert-inspired enclosure. Visitors will be able to get face to face with the sun worshippers through underground viewing and VisualMedia were employed to take promotional pictures of this new ‘Creature Features’ area.

Rebecca Loos was signed up as the face of totesport Text Betting that was launched by the bookmaker in time for the World Cup this summer. The firm also released a whole host of England World Cup specials that were exclusive to the service including a price on David Beckham scoring in Germany. This service is the first of it's kind in the UK with the bookmaker looking to capitalise on a nation that sends over 99 million texts per day. The pictures were used on promotional posters in tote bookies around the country and also went out to the press accompany their results announcement.

Apart from the heat, Sven Goran Eriksson has certainly had a better reason to sweat than most of us recently and a VisualMedia photographer was on hand to capture his brow being mopped. Well actually it was his waxwork dummy at Madame Tussauds that was a star attraction over the summer and images were sent out to the press during the world cup.

The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is one of the most exciting contemporary gardens to be developed in the last century, a magical landscape accessible to everyone; a garden for contemplation, fun, inspiration and education. On June 16th, The Alnwick Garden hosted some 600 delegates from over 30 different countries for an evening meal and spectacular light show. This event was part of the World Summit on Arts & Culture and working alongside Citigate Dewe Rogerson, VisualMedia were there to take pictures.

Hacks v Flacks – Football & Cricket matches

Following on from the success of the cricket last summer, after a decade’s absence, the Hacks vs Flaks football match was reinstated recently and played in the driving rain front of hardy spectators at the Bank of England Sports complex. Several of those who played in the early 90s were once again in attendance, including City media grandees such as the Independent’s Mike Harrison, Will Lewis of the Daily Telegraph and the Sun’s Ian King, as well as the Flaks’ John Kiely of Smithfield, College Hill’s Tom Baldock and James Melville-Ross from FD. The Flacks won the cricket last year and the Hacks won the footie. Hostilities resume this week with another cricket match and more details can be found at http://www.hacksvsflaks.co.uk

And finally…

And finally…

Our lovely Hayley Smith, who has been such a tremendous asset to our media team over the past couple of years, has decided to take a year off and travel the world with her husband. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Hayley for all her hard work and wish her well as she embarks on this new adventure. We won’t say goodbye just au revoir. Fiona Hill, formerly of PR agency Weber Shandwick, who joins on August 18th, will replace Hayley. We’d also like to welcome two other additions, Brenda Okello and Rob O’Sullivan, who have recently joined the studio team.
