VisualMedia Focus

February 2006

We're well into the New Year now and welcome to the first '06 edition of our Focus newsletter.

In this issue we look at a snapshot of assignments that kept us busy in January, including international photography for InterContinental Hotel Group's annual report that took us to Chicago and Shanghai, plus the AIM flotation of XCounter in Sweden. Both of these projects are covered in more detail below along with the usual selection of UK-based assignments.

Please remember that we also offer a full idea generation service, free of charge with no obligation, so do call us to discuss any projects you may be planning.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Dan Shillum
Director

Working with Parkhill Communications, VisualMedia was employed as photographic partners for IHG's forthcoming annual report. The main brief was to provide a compelling set of pictures showing IHG staff and guests in certain flagship hotels around the world. After several weeks of planning, we despatched a team of four (an art director, two photographers and an assistant) to Chicago and then Shanghai with the finishing touches taking place in London.

Offshore investment and asset management company, Corvus Capital hired us to produce photography to accompany the launch of Sparky Brand for their client Conival Plc. Sparky Brand has been developed to create a range of everyday breakfast, lunch and dinner food and drink products incorporating Omega 3, whose significant health benefits are becoming increasingly recognised.

Buchanan Communications commissioned us to take pictures of their client XCounter, which announced its intention to float on AIM. As XCounter is based in Stockholm, Sweden we utilised our overseas network of photographers to get the pictures taken locally. Although the ultimate opportunity was limited, we distributed the pictures to the UK and Swedish press on the day of the announcement with a variety of shots being used.

The Post Office recently announced its entry into the Directory Enquiries market and we worked alongside its PR agency, Nelson Bostock to achieve coverage for the launch. It was decided to incorporate the Post Office's very successful 'Ant Family' in some way. As a result of selective distribution to the press, a large picture was subsequently used alongside the story in the Sunday Times.

If you want to catch your favourite TV programme whilst out and about, BT's proposed new service BT Movio, will soon enable you to watch live TV through your mobile. Our photographer got some great close-up shots during a recent BT test where Big Brother was being watched live on a handset. Pictures were subsequently distributed to the press and uploaded to BT's online image library hosted by VisualMedia, with coverage being achieved in the national and trade press.

Now here's a novel concept. Dartboards may soon be brought into school classrooms to help students boost their maths - Education Minister Phil Hope reckons a game of darts sharpens mental arithmetic because of the adding, subtracting and multiplying skills needed on the oche. Fishburn Hedges commissioned us to take pictures of him and darts ace Martin Adams at the World Darts Championship. The story with an accompanying picture was run as an exclusive in the Sunday Mirror recently.

And here's another new idea. Barclays have announced plans to get rid of pens on chains and change the name of its cash machines from ATMs to "holes in the wall" which is designed to make its branches more user-friendly. We took pictures to go alongside this announcement and distributed images to the press. Pick up was achieved in the trade press as well as several national papers.

VisualMedia was recently asked to produce a set of images to represent Yell Group across all facets of their business. The images also formed the core basis of a new media relevant image library consisting of around 100 images hosted on VisualMedia Online. Since its launch in December 05, the media are now accessing this site on a daily basis with images regularly appearing in the national, regional and trade press.
